Otaheiti Apples

The Otaheiti Apple is one of Jamaican's favorite fruit! No wonder why, the bright red and sometimes deep dark red entices the eyes and the sweet juice that gushes out seduces the tongue. I took this shot of the apples on a Otaheiti Apple tree in my yard. I'll wait until they are a bit riper before I pick those two on the left!

@shotzz.eu: LOL! If i could ship fruits i would. If you ever come to Jamaica make sure it's this time of the year when it's apple season, and you will certainly have a lot to eat!

Nice picture. Mmm..it's been a long time since I ate these....I love them. They are also called Malay apples, jambu etc ... they are native to Malaysia. They are also found in other parts of south east Asia and southern part of India. They were introduced to the West Indies by the British I think.

Madahavi is right. i dont know if it's native to Malaysia.. but this type of jambu is called jambu air (water apples, i suppose) because of it's spongy porous texture and very juicy flesh. sometimes it's really sour but if you're lucky, you'd get a sweet one.
